Abstract

Education is essentially a process of cultural transformation that has been widely explored from local wisdom. In education, this is known as ethnopedagogy. Ethnopedagogy is defined as an educational approach based on local wisdom which is an appropriate strategy to be used in developing student character, especially in elementary school age. One of the Balinese local wisdoms that is often taught to children of elementary school age is learning Majejahitan. The forms of sewing that are taught are basic forms that are easy to master and the philosophy is not too difficult to understand. The Majejahitan tradition can be an appropriate learning medium in building the complexity of students' understanding in relation to thematic learning. Thematic learning through an ethnopedagogical approach in majejahitan activities can also be a very strategic step in efforts to preserve various local wisdoms of Balinese Hindu culture and traditions amidst the onslaught of time. Thematically, elements of fields of study that can be explored through majejahitan learning, for example, are the fields of mathematics, social sciences, religion, ethics and character. Majejahitan activities in this case can also be implemented in skills subjects and also extra-curricular, so that the thematic understanding that is learned directly leads to the concrete reality of each student.
